February 2017 Citizen of the Month - Karen Smith
Congratulations to Watervliet's Citizen of the Month winner! Mayor Manning, along with Councilman Foglia and Councilman Patricelli, presented Karen Smith the Citizen of the Month Award at the February 16th Watervliet City Council Meeting. Karen Smith has expended her own finances and great personal effort to care for stray animals, in particular feral cats, in the City of Watervliet. She also volunteers at the Watervliet Public Library and is the coordinator for the local HAM radio organization.

Snow Emergency Declared for Tuesday, February 14 - Beginning at 7:00 a.m.
The City of Watervliet has declared a snow emergency beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, February 14th at 7:00 a.m. As a reminder, the WPD will inform residents to move their vehicles. Failure to do so will result in immediate towing to Hudson Shores Park, and your vehicle will not be released until the ticket and tow charge of $250 are paid in full. Once plowing on your street is complete, your vehicle can be moved back. Do do not park your vehicle in the elementary school or high school parking lot or it will be towed by the school district.
If your car is towed, you must come to City Hall to pay your ticket and tow charge and then you can go to Hudson Shores Park to pick up your vehicle. City Hall will be open on Tuesday until 8:00 p.m. and regular business hours the rest of the week.

January 2017 Citizen of the Month - Bill Fahr
Congratulations to Watervliet's Citizen of the Month winner! Mayor Manning, along with Councilman Foglia and Councilman Patricelli, presented Bill Fahr the City of Watervilet Citizen of the Month Award at the January 19th Watervliet City Council Meeting. Bill Fahr has given very generously of his time and efforts in maintaining Watervliet's Brotherhood Park on 25th Street this past year. In addition, Bill is very active in Watervliet Little League and the soccer program.

Council Approves 2017 Budget
On December 15, 2016 the Council of the City of Watervliet approved the 2017 budget. This budget has an overall tax levy of $4,231,160.00. The tax rate for 2017 is 11.1048 which is a 1.9% increase over 2016. The tax increase will cost the average homeowner in the City of Watervliet approximately $41.40 per year or $3.45 per month. Watervliet Firefighter Exam - March 18, 2017
The City of Watervliet will be administering the firefighter exam on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Packets are available in the City Clerk's office at City Hall and on this website under the Civil Service Department. Applications must be received by Tuesday, January 17th.
Holiday Tree Lighting - Saturday, December 3rd - 5:00-6:30 p.m.
The Holiday Tree Lighting will be Saturday, December 3rd from 5:00-6:30 p.m. The event will feature ornament distribution, a reading of The Night Before Christmas, refreshments including soup prepared by Mr. Gaddy's Food & Nutrition students at Watervliet High School, horse drawn wagon rides, lighting of the Christmas tree and the memorial trees and a visit from Santa Claus. This is a free event to kick off the holiday season!
Memorial Christmas Trees
Memorial Christmas Trees are available for families to purchase and will be displayed within the municipal swimming pool grounds. Families purchase a tree for $50 and are responsible for decorating it. The trees will be lit during the Holiday Tree Lighting on December 3rd. If you are interested in purchasing a tree, please call Bob at 337-9115 or Chris at 270-3815.

Thanksgiving Day - Garbage Pick Up
There will be no garbage pick up on Thursday, November 24th due to Thanksgiving. Put your garbage out on Thursday evening for Friday pick up. There will be no leaf pick up on Friday, November 25th - leaf pick up will resume Friday, December 2nd.

Election Day and Veteran's Day - Garbage/Leaf Pick Up
There will be no garbage pick up on Tuesday, November 8th due to Election Day. Put your garbage out on Tuesday evening for Wednesday pick up. There will be no leaf pick up on Friday, November 11th due to Veteran's Day. Leaf pick up will resume on Friday, November 18th.
Water Department - Fall Flushing Notice
The City of Watervliet Water Department will be conducting annual fall flushing of the City's waterlines. The flush will run from October 13, 2016 to November 25, 2016. If you notice any discoloring of your water, we ask that you run your water for 5 minutes. If after 5 minutes you still have discolored water, we ask that you call the Water Department @ 785-7082.
Albany County Land Bank
The City of Watervliet is collaborating with the Albany County Land Bank to improve and redistribute vacant and abandoned properties. Click here to see the status of properties acquired in Watervliet.

Fall Bulk Item Pick-Up Week
The City of Watervliet wants to remind residents that the week of October 3rd has been designated as Fall Bulk Item Pick-Up Week. During this time Watervliet residents can discard their bulk items at no charge. Residents must put their items out the night before their regularly scheduled garbage pick up. For more information, click here. In addition, Electronics Recycling Day will be Friday, October 7th. Drop off your electronics at the City Garage between 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Public Hearing - June 29th at 7:00 p.m.
On June 29, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. this Council will hold a Public Hearing at the J. Leo O'Brien Senior Citizen Center, Watervliet, New York concerning the proposed sale of the Property, a portion of 20th Street being a strip of land approximately 50 feet wide by 103.70 long, at which time all persons interested may be heard in opposition to or in favor of such proposed sale of the Property. Soul Rebel Performance Troupe Performance
The Soul Rebel Peformance Troupe, located at 1501 1st Avenue, presents ECLIPSED on July 15-17, July 22-24 and July 29-31. Admission is $15 for adults, $8 for children under 17 and Watervliet Senior Citizens are free. Click here for more information.

Summer Concert Series
The City of Watervliet Recreation Department is excited about the 2016 Summer Concert Series. Let's Be Frank performed at the Gazebo Park in Port Schuyler (across from Stewarts) on Tuesday, June 7th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. (despite the showery weather forecast) and Three Easy Pieces performed for a much larger crowd at Hudson Shores Park on Tuesday, July 12th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The third concert will feature Yankee Holler on Tuesday, August 9th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hudson Shores Park. This concert will include food vendors and a bouncy bounce for kids. Plans are in the works to plan another concert for September at the Civic Center field. The concerts are free of charge - all you need to bring is your lawn chair (this is a family event - no alcoholic beverages).

Citywide Garage Sale - June 3-5, 2016
A Citywide garage sale will take place in Watervliet on Friday, June 3rd, Saturday, June 4th and Sunday, June 5th, 2016. THERE WILL BE NO RAIN DATES. The City will map out and list on our website (www.watervliet.com – select the box “Interactive Mapping”) your address, days and hours you wish to hold the sale on your property. The normal $10 permit fee will be waived for this weekend’s sale. All unsold items at the end of the sale must be cleared from the property according to the City’s Refuse and Recycling codes. Please do not block the public right of way (sidewalks, etc.). If you wish to have your garage sale placed on the map and list, please contact Phyllis at 270-3800 ext. 100 no later than 4:00 PM, Tuesday, May 31st. If leaving a message, please be sure to include your name, address, phone number, the day or days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday or ALL) and the hours (e.g. 9 AM to 4 PM) you will be holding your sale. Sale end time must not exceed 5 PM.
Relay for Life of the Hudson River Communities
Relay for Life of the Hudson River Communities is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk. The walk is Saturday, June 4, 2016 from noon to midnight at the Watervliet High School. During the relay event, participants and survivors celebrate what they've overcome. Watervliet's own Kristy Cavanaugh Scalise will be giving one of the survivor speeches. City of Watervliet Property Tax Bills Now Paid at Pioneer Bank
All in person or over the counter property tax payments must be paid at the Watervliet Branch of Pioneer Savings Bank. Payments will no longer be accepted at City Hall. For more information, click here.
Snow Emergency Notification Registration
Winter is fast approaching. Snow is coming. The City of Watervliet has a very efficient and aggressive snow emergency policy that provides safe passage on all of our City streets for the motoring public as well as accessibility for public safety and emergency service vehicles. The plan includes towing fees and fines.
If you are a City of Watervliet resident please take this opportunity to register for our snow emergency program. It's FREE. Here you will be able to register for snow emergency notification and other notifications issued by the City. Also, you may wish to review the City's snow removal policy.
