Clerk Typist Civil Service Test for Watervliet City School District

A Clerk Typist Civil Service test for the Watervliet City School District will be administered on Saturday, September 9, 2017.  Last day to file an application is Wednesday, August 30th.  Click here for more information.

There may be shut offs today in the area of Broadway and 1st Avenue (possibliy 2nd Avenue too) from 4th Street to 7th Street.

Summer Concert Series - August 8, 2017

The third of four summer concerts will take place Tuesday, August 8th at 6:00 p.m. at Hudson Shores Park.  MP3 will play rain or shine.

Arsenal City Run - Sunday, September 24, 2017 - 10:00 a.m.

Registration is open for the 36th Annual Arsenal City Run.  $1,000 in prize money will be awarded plus we've added a team category to the race.  You can register by going to the event's website or at www.zippyreg.com.

Water Main Project

Construction work on the water main project will begin on Tuesday, July 18th. Attached you will find Phase I and Phase 2 maps of the project as well as a listing of the streets in preliminary order.  Call City Manager Jeremy Smith at 270-3800 ext. 122 if you have any questions.

Free Concert at Hudson Shores Park - Tuesday, July 11th - 6:00-8:00 pm

Our summer concert series continues on Tuesday, July 11th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hudson Shores Pavilion.  Ubuntu will perform rain or shine.  Bring your lawn chair and enjoy classic rock from the 1950s to the present.

Road Resurfacing - July 5-July 14

Click here for a list of streets that are being repaved.  Gallo Construction will begin milling on Monday, July 5th (starting on the South end of the City and moving North).   If you have "no parking" signs in front of your house, do not park there between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Once your street has been paved, you may resume parking there.

July 4th Holiday Garbage Pick Up

There will be no garbage pick up on Tuesday, July 4th in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.  Residents should put their trash out on Tuesday evening for Wednesday pick up. 

Summer Blacktopping Schedule

Blacktopping will begin Wednesday, July 5th on the following roads:5th Avenue between 2nd Street and 4th Street; 4th Avenue between 6th Street and 7th Street; 2nd Street between Broadway and 2nd Avenue; 13th Street between 3rd Avenue and 8th Avenue; 12th Street and 8th Avenue; 10th Avenue between 19th Street and 25th Street; 8th Avenue between 19th Street and 25th Street; 24th Street between Broadway and 12th Avenue.

Signs will be posted indicating parking restrictions.

TV & Electronics Recycling Day - Friday, July 7th - 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Collection will take place at the DPW garage located at 13th Street and 2nd Avenue.  Tires - $2.00 each; air conditioners/refrigerators - $5.00 each; televisions and electronics - FREE.

Benefit for Van Rensselaer Village Fire Victims

A benefit for the victims of the June 12th fire at Van Rensselaer Village will be held on Tuesday, June 20th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Dome.  Click here for more information.

Summer Concert Series - Tuesday, June 6th - 6:00-8:00 p.m.

The first of four summer concerts will take place Tuesday, June 6th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hudson Shores Park under the pavilion.   "Let's Be Frank" will kick off the concert series rain or shine.

Memorial Day Celebration (rescheduled due to rain on May 29)

The City of Watervliet's Memorial Day Celebration will take place on Thursday, June 1st at 6:00 p.m. at Veteran's Park.  The program was cancelled after the parade on Monday, May 29th due to rain.

The City's Annual Memorial Day Parade will be Monday, 29, 2017 beginning at 10:00 a.m.  The parade kicks off at Watervliet HIgh School and ends at Veteran's Park.

Spring Bulk Week

The City of Watervliet wants to remind residents that the week of May 8th has been designated as Spring Bulk Week.  During this time Watervliet residents can discard their bulk items at no charge.  Residents must put their items out the night before their regularly scheduled garbage pick up. We must reiterate this is a perk for WATERVLIET RESIDENTS ONLY. This does not include Watervliet homeowners who live outside the city limits. We've been fielding a lot of phone calls this week where it is obvious the person inquiring does not actually live here. This is in violation of Chapter 168 of the City Code and violators will be arrested. For more information on bulk week, click here

Housing Rehabilitation Grant Program

The City of Watervliet is currently accepting applications for its 2016 Housing Rehabilitation Grant Program. This program allows qualified homeowners the opportunity to address health and safety, code and energy deficiencies identified in their homes.  2017 Income limits are as follows: 1 person—$45,950, 2 people-$52,500, 3 people-$59,050, 4 people-$65,600, 5 people-$70,850, 6 people-$76,100.  Click here for the application.  For more information please contact Dave Wheatley in the Economic Development Department at (518) 270-3800 ext. 103 or by email david@watervliet.com.

Relay for Life - June 3, 2017 at Watervliet High School

The Relay for Life of the Hudson River Communities is scheduled for Saturday, June 3, 2017 from noon to midnight at Watervliet High School.  The event theme this year is SUPERHERO.  The survivor speaker is Ellen Connery, who is a 20+ survivor from Green Island and Mark Gleason will be the caregiver speaker.  For more information log onto the event's website at www.relayforlife.org/hudsonriverNY.

Water Department - Spring Flushing Notice

The City of Watervliet Water Department will be conducting annual spring flushing of the City's waterlines.  The flush will run from April 10th to May 12th.  If you notice any discoloring of your water, we ask that you run your water for five minutes.  If after five minutes you still have discolored water, we ask that you call the Water Department at 785-7082.

Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC) Equity Task Force Seeks Members

CDTC's Equity Task Force is looking for new members! The CDTC is a federally mandated agency responsible for comprehensive and cooperative regional transportation planning in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady Counties. The Task Force promotes collaboration and problem solving to ensure fair access to opportunities and equitable distribution of the transportation system's benefits and burdens. The Task Force meets quarterly at the CDTC offices on Wolf Road in Colonie. For questions contact Carrie Ward at cward@cdtcmpo.org or call 518-458-2161.

Civil Service Announcement

The Watervliet Civil Service Commission announces examinations for the position of Public Housing Program Coordinator and Tenant Relations Examiner within the Watervliet Housing Authority.  The exam is scheduled for May 13, 2017.  Applications are available at Watervliet City Hall in the City Clerk's Office or the City of Watervliet's Civil Service Department web page.  The last filing date for this exam is April 10, 2017.

Congratulations to the following Watervliet restaurants for winning first place:  Best Burger and Best Neighborhood Bar - Black Bear Inn; Best Fish Fry - Ted's Fish Fry and Best Hot Dogs - Gus's Hot Dogs.

Summer Concert Series

The City of Watervliet Recreation Department is excited about the 2017 Summer Concert Series.   The concerts are free of charge and the schedule will be posted soon - all you need to bring is your lawn chair.  

Citywide Garage Sale - June 2-4, 2017

A Citywide garage sale will take place in Watervliet on Friday, June 2nd, Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th, 2017. THERE WILL BE NO RAIN DATES. The City will map out and list on our website (www.watervliet.com – select the box “Interactive Mapping”) your address, days and hours you wish to hold the sale on your property. The normal $10 permit fee will be waived for this weekend’s sale. All unsold items at the end of the sale must be cleared from the property according to the City’s Refuse and Recycling codes. Please do not block the public right of way (sidewalks, etc.). If you wish to have your garage sale placed on the map and list, please contact Phyllis at 270-3800 ext. 100 no later than 4:00 PM, Tuesday, May 30th. If leaving a message, please be sure to include your name, address, phone number, the day or days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday or ALL) and the hours (e.g. 9 AM to 4 PM) you will be holding your sale. Sale end time must not exceed 5 PM.

City of Watervliet Property Tax Bills Now Paid at Pioneer Bank

All in person or over the counter property tax payments must be paid at the Watervliet Branch of Pioneer Savings Bank.  Payments will no longer be accepted at City Hall.  For more information, click here. .
