Watervliet Departments

  • Mayor's Office - The Mayor's Office is the Executive Office for the City of Watervliet and works with all departments within the City to ensure quality of service for it's citizens.
  • City Council - The City Council is the Legislative, appropriating, governing and policy determining body of the City's government.
  • General Manager - Responsible for supervising and coordinating all activities and services offered by the City and implementing the policies as set forth by the City Council.
  • Assessor's Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and handles all of the City's property information.
  • Building Department - Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is responsible for all building permits, residential occupancy inspections and permits.
  • City Clerk - Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is responsible for marriage and dog licenses, permits for garage and yard sales and vendors.
  • Civil Service - Oversees all aspects of Civil Service law. Administers testing for the City, School District and Housing Authority.
  • Corporation Counsel - Handles all legal aspects of the day to day business for the City of Watervliet.
  • Finance Department - Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. is responsible for collection of tax payments, payment of parking tickets and all other aspects of the City's finances.
  • Fire Department/EMS - Available 24 hours a day by dialing 270-3830. In an emergency dial 9-1-1.
  • Highway Department - The City Garage is open Monday through from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and handles the maintenance of all City streets, alleys and public right of ways.
  • Parks & Recreation - Oversees all City Parks, runs all recreation programs for the City and oversees the City Pool in the summer.
  • Police Department - Available 24 hours a day by dialing 270-3833. In an emergency dial 9-1-1.
  • Purchasing Department - Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Planning and Community Revitalization Department- The Planning and Community Revitalization Depatment is charged with helping develop a comprehensive plan, implement sustainable practices and encourage green design, and tackle needed zoning reforms.
  • Water and Sewer Departments - Office is open 24 hours a day and is responsible for all water and sewer functions in the City.
  • Refuse and Recycling Department



    The Watervliet City Court is located next door to City Hall and is presided over by the Hon. Thomas Lamb. To contact the court call 518-270-3803.
